Hailed as “one of the best young bands in America,” Filligar is the rock n’ roll quartet comprised of the three Mathias brothers—Johnny, Pete, and Teddy—and their lifelong friend Casey Gibson. Drawing comparisons to a “young Rolling Stones” and called “the next Kings of Leon,” the band gives classic rock their own unique and distinctly modern edge. They’ve headlined sold out shows at the nation’s most acclaimed venues, toured the United Kingdom to wildly enthusiastic audiences, and recently supported both The Black Keys and My Morning Jacket. Their album The Nerve is currently nominated for Best Rock Album at the Independent Music Awards. In December 2011, the powerhouse music blog RSL named Filligar one of the top 8 live acts in the USA, along with fellow Windy City band Wilco.

The 4onthefloor’s new album, Spirit Of Minneapolis, evokes the spirit of American rebellion. That same pioneering spirit that brought us everything from modern aviation to rock & roll. Harnessing that spirit, the band is using it to break down modern music’s barriers down to our basic musical traditions. That ageless sound of rock & roll isn’t what it used to be, but the rumble of stomping feet emanating from Minneapolis is an omen of great things on the horizon.

The 4/4 beating of the bass drums recalls the American ideal of onward and upward, turning our prevailing spirits to the sky after a reaching the end of the land. The 4-barreled onslaught can be a train building up steam right behind you, the king of the jungle chasing you down, or your wheels on the highway. It’s the soundtrack of America moving forward.

Delta blues, classic rock, and a lifetime of attentive listening have produced a sound whose time has come. The energetic and powerful delivery of this band cannot be overstated. Their huge, soulful anthems leave nothing on the floor as Gabriel Douglas’ guttural howl soars through the ether.

There’s a readiness to be found in listeners now. The fervor of discovery and innovation is coming back to the American masses and the excitement surrounding the birth of rock & roll is now roaring out of the doldrums with a fury. Let go. Take flight. Indulge in life’s pleasures and stomp with them.

bettedaviseyesDaphne Lee Martin
After a whirlwind affair with roots music, garnering her several songwriting and performance awards, including CT Music Awards’ 2012 Country Artist of the Year, Daphne Lee Martin is back in force with a new collections of songs on her latest record, Moxie.
Boasting a new cast of characters in a deeply provocative and reflective story, Daphne’s live show leans heavily on trip hop, blue-eyed soul and prohibition-era voodoo all set in a seedy cabaret. Moxie was produced by Bill Readey, right here in New Haven, and features several guests from the wealth of the Elm City’s music scene, including John Panos (Mates of State), Matt Lindauer (Sugarbat), Eric Stevenson (Pocket Vinyl),Milksop:Unsung, Matt Thomas (M.T.Bearington), Sam Perduta (Elison Jackson) and Erik Elligers (Goodnight Blue Moon).

Bees Made Honey In the Lion’s Head

beesEvery girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp-dressed man
You’re a wolf with a closet full of wool
& I have never been a victim,
but baby you’re so cool

You never see the nests until the leaves have blown
Till the birds have flown, till you’re eating crow
You never see the nests till the birds have flown

Samson went soft for a woman
Slept in the joy of his sins
Woke to cry, “Delilah, why’d you do me wrong?”
“It was the least I could do for my kin,
& if your god would forsake you so easy,
Don’t the proudest go down so hard…
What good is the strength of a thousand men
If you’ve got no heart, if you’ve got no heart?”

If I had my way, I would tear this building down

Now the bees made honey in the lion’s head
& the beasts have cleaned the bones
An eye for an eye for an eye for an eye
Can’t you hear Jerusalem moan? Can’t you hear Jerusalem moan?

Winter Warmer | Trio of Songbirds at the Outer Space January 10th!

Suzie Brown | If Suzie Brown had an anthem, it’d have to be the twangy “Heartstrings,” off her same-named debut. A string-soaked ode to unrequited love, the debut single delicately marked her transition

from Harvard-educated cardiologist to singer-songwriter, now musing on matters of the heart. In the three years since making good on her extracurricular activity, she’s been named the Best of Philly (by Philadelphia magazine) and opened for such kindred spirits as Lyle Lovett. And if her name doesn’t ring a bell, her first single will: Picked up by the Play Network, “Heartstrings” can currently be heard soulfully wafting through stores nationwide. www.suziebrownsongs.com

Jenee Halstead | Jenee Halstead grew up in the high desert of Spokane, Washington, the daughter of hippie parents who let her find her own direction. She spent her childhood exploring her mother’s garden and singing along to records with her Dad. In middle school, she transformed into the rarest ofbirds; an athletic choir geek who sang medieval choral works, but loved Led Zeppelin and Dolly Parton. She wrote quietly on her own for years, moving from place to place – Spokane to Seattle to nowhere Alaska, before moving to Boston in 2007. She collected all of her songs into what would become The River Grace. Her newest album, Raised By Wolves, reclaims the careless freedom of her childhood with a sense of wonder that is unique and fiercely engaging.     http://jeneehalstead.com/

And of course, Daphne Lee Martin‘s new record Moxie, to be released in January, takes Daphne’s beloved traditional southern roots sounds and runs them through megaphones, mellotron, a very old tube amp, a swamp and a dark alley or two. As always, the lyrics are fermented and distilled in a bathtub full of misfit Interbellum prose. This show will be the acoustic shakedown of her new band with members of M.T. Bearington, Fake Babies, Milksop:Unsung, and Sugarbat.      www.daphneleemartin.com
